18th J&K Wushu championship concludes: Govt determined to make J&K an exceptional sports hub: Satish Sharma

Jammu: The four day 18th UT level J&K Wushu Championship concluded at Bhagwati Nagar with about 1200 Wushu players from 19 districts, 06 Khelo India centres and J&K Police participating in the mega event.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports, FCS &CA, Transport, Satish Sharma, was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony of the championship.
While speaking on the occasion, the Minister lauded Wushu Association of J&K for giving platform to the young budding players and taking this potential sports to every nook and corner of the J&K. He exhorted that Wushu sports is one of the most decorated sports in J&K with first Asian Games/World Championship medalist and lone National Awardee (Dronacharya Awardee) in the entire J&K.
The Minister asserted that promoting sports is priority for the present government which is determined to make J&K an exceptional sports hub in the coming years. He maintained that J&K is blessed with unique sports talent which needs fillip to groom and exhibit best at the international arena.
Satish Sharma added that sports is the only medium to engage the youth and channelise their energy towards positive direction. He advised the parents to encourage their wards to make sports an integral part of their lives for being mentally and physically strong. He also congratulated all the medallists of Wushu in the recently held 38th National Games at Uttarakhand.
Jammu remained overall champion while Srinagar district and KIC Jammu secured the place for first and second runner up of the 18th J&K Wushu championship.
Present on the occasion were Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee; Rajeev Sharma, Member Sports Council; Sadat Aslam Wani, Vice President of Wushu Association besides other office bearers and coaches.
