Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Darakhshan Andrabi has directed that the ongoing construction at Eidgah Srinagar be completed before Eid ul Fitr, ensuring that the historic prayer ground is ready for public use.
Dr. Darakhshan while inspecting the site, emphasized the importance of maintaining the Eidgah in a well-organized and aesthetically pleasing condition. She stated that all necessary instructions had been given to the concerned authorities to expedite the construction work. “We want Eidgah to be in its best condition so that people can offer prayers without any inconvenience,” Dr. Andrabi said. However, she clarified that holding Eid prayers at the site would depend on the prevailing situation and weather conditions on the day. Beyond Eidgah, Dr. Andrabi also reviewed renovation projects at key shrines, including Hazratbal, Dastgeer Sahib, and Makhdoom Sahib. She assured that all preparations were being made for Shab-e-Baraat to facilitate devotees. “There are various government agencies responsible for maintaining hygiene and other facilities at religious sites, and we are ensuring that all necessary measures are taken,” she said. When asked about the Waqf Amendment Bill being introduced in Parliament, Dr. Andrabi declined to comment, stating that she would speak only after reviewing the proposed changes. She also addressed the recent High Court ruling, which held that families of militants cannot be denied passports, stating that the court’s decision should be implemented as per the law. The ongoing construction at Eidgah and the improvement of other religious sites reflect a broader effort to enhance facilities for worshippers, while decisions regarding large congregations remain subject to external factors.
