Doda : As part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), District administration Doda has intensified initiatives for empowerment of girls. The District has witnessed a major surge in girls’ participation in sports and reaping of benefits under welfare schemes launched under the banner of iconic BBBP initiative.
The stakeholder departments, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, have been organizing multiple programs to promote physical well-being, sports and education empowerment of women.
One of the key achievements has been the training of 100 girls in Taekwondo, empowering them with self-defense skills and boosting their confidence. The Chenab Sports Academy played a crucial role in encouraging young girls to actively participate in Taekwondo as a sport, fostering discipline and resilience.
Additionally, archery has been introduced in the girls’ hostels, leading to remarkable performances at division and state levels. Cricket has also been promoted by the Doda administration, ensuring equal opportunities for girls in mainstream sports. To minimize their school dropout, the facility of toilets has been ensured in majority of schools across the district.
Further enhancing physical fitness, gym equipment has been provided to girls’ hostels, promoting a healthy lifestyle alongside education. These initiatives aim to strengthen the physical and mental well-being of young girls, making sports an integral part of their growth.
Beyond sports, the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), under the Department of Social Welfare, has played a crucial role in empowering women by imparting them awareness and linkages to various women-centric schemes. Through structured programs, Sankalp HEW has helped in generating awareness about financial assistance programs, self-employment schemes, legal aid, and emergency helplines, ensuring that women across the district receive the support they need.
With continuous efforts in sports, education, and welfare, Doda is emerging as a progressive district for women empowerment. The BBBP campaign, alongside the initiatives of the Social Welfare Department and Sankalp HEW, Mission Shakti is ensuring that young girls and women have access to opportunities that help them thrive in all fields—from sports to economic independence.
