Jammu: Police in Jammu on Monday said that Janipur Police swiftly arrested two snatchers within six hours of the crime and also recovered the stolen mobile phone.
In a statement issued from the District Police Office Jammu Police said that one Akashay Kumar Aryan, son of Suresh Kumar, R/O Lower Roop Nagar, lodged a complaint stating therein that while he was on his way to a library, an unknown person on a scooty snatched his iPhone 12 worth ₹70,000 and fled.
Acting on the complaint, FIR No. 17/2025 U/S 307 BNS was registered at Police Station Janipur, and an investigation was launched. During the course of the investigation, SHO Janipur, Inspector Vikram Sharma, utilized Smart City cameras installed at various locations to track the accused. The scooty, bearing registration number JK02CF 0979, was identified, leading to the arrest of the suspects within six hours. The accused were identified as: Sumeet Sharma, son of Omkar Sharma, resident of Bhaderwah, presently living in Paloura, Jammu and Aman, son of Satveer, resident of Rajeev Nagar, Narwal, Jammu.
The scooty used in the crime was also seized. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other gang members involved in similar crimes across Jammu City. Police in its statement said that accused Sumeet Sharma is a habitual offender with five previous FIRs registered against him. Consequently, his history sheet has been opened as per police rules. Notably, the Smart City cameras played a crucial role in decoding the number plate of the vehicle, ultimately leading to the swift arrest. With all key evidence secured, Jammu Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring justice is served swiftly.
