Doda : A felicitation-cum-awareness program on the Bima Sakhi Scheme was held on Monday here under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harvinder Singh.
The program, organized by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), local Branch, marked the official inauguration of the scheme in the district.
The Bima Sakhi Scheme offers a new opportunity for self-employment and community support, empowering women by integrating them into the insurance sector. Under this initiative, 75 women from District Doda have been appointed as Bima Sakhis, taking on the role of financial facilitators to enhance insurance penetration at the grassroots level.
During the event, the DC alongside Senior Divisional Manager, LIC, gave away appointment letters to the newly inducted Bima Sakhis, encouraging them to utilize this opportunity for economic empowerment and community service.
The DC highlighted the significance of the scheme in promoting financial inclusion and empowering women through sustainable livelihood options. He appreciated LIC for bringing this initiative to Doda and urged the newly appointed Bima Sakhis to work with dedication in spreading awareness about the benefits of insurance. He also urged participants to avail the benefits of the government-sponsored schemes offered by Agriculture, Power Development Department (PDD), and other departments. He emphasized the vast scope in Krishi Udyami and highlighted the significance of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in promoting education.
He further stated that as Bima Sakhis, women can access various government schemes to improve their economic well-being. He also encouraged them to take advantage of the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) for better livelihood opportunities.
Earlier, LIC officials provided a brief history of LIC India’s development and highlighted important information regarding the Bima Sakhi Scheme.
The event was attended by Development Officer LIC Jyoti Parkash, the Heads of Government Degree Colleges (GDCs), officers, representatives from LIC and banking institutions, and other distinguished guests.
