4 drug peddlers arrested in B’gam & Handwara, Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Budgam and Handwara and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Budgam, a police party of Police Station Beerwah headed by ASI Mohammad Shafi at a checkpoint established near Larbal bridge intercepted two suspects identified as Rameez Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohammad Ramzan Ganie R/o Hardu Lattina and Danish Ahmad Sheikh S/o Abdul Ahad Sheikh R/o Larbal, who on seeing the police party, threw a green-coloured polythene bag on the roadside and tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during checking the said bag, charas like substance in powdered form weighing about 575 grams was recovered from the possession of the said accused who were arrested and subsequently a case under FIR No. 15/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Beerwah besides initiating further investigation.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Handwara, a police team of Police Station Villgam at a checkpoint established at Champora Crossing intercepted two suspects identified as Mohammed Gulzar Mir S/o Gh Mohi ud din Mir R/o Amargarh Sharkoot and Faisal Ahmed Mir S/o Ghulam Ahmad Mir R/o Manzgam and during search recovered 62 grams of contraband Charas-like substances from the possession of the said accused who were arrested , adding therein that a case under relevant section of law was registered in Police Station Villgam besides initiating further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to remain vigilant and report drug peddling activities to the nearest police station, reiterating therein its commitment on collective action against the menace of drug addiction and trafficking.
