Srinagar: Below is the weeklong timeline of the major public events and engagements of top public functionaries witnessed within and outside Jammu & Kashmir this week:-
1. LG Sinha’s Visit To New Delhi World Book Fair 2025: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the New Delhi World Book Fair 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. He lauded the efforts of the National Book Trust, India, for promoting literary engagement and urged them to organize annual book festivals in Jammu and Srinagar.
2. Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid’s Health Deteriorates Amid Hunger Strike: The health condition of jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid has worsened as his indefinite hunger strike entered the eighth day. AIP spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said Rashid was shifted to RML Hospital and reiterated calls for justice.
3. CM Omar’s Engagements With Pre-Budget Consultations: J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the significance of pre-budget consultations, saying they help shape a budget that reflects public aspirations. Speaking on the third day of discussions, he assured stakeholders that their concerns would be considered.
4. JKBOSE Annual Exams 2025 to Begin This Month: A total of 3.69 lakh students from grades 10, 11, and 12 will appear for the JKBOSE Annual Regular 2025 exams across 3,682 centers. The exams in soft zones will commence on Feb 15, while hard zone exams will begin on Feb 21, aligning with the CBSE schedule.
5. Govt Orders Probes Into Gujjar Youth’s Alleged Custodial Death: The J&K government has launched two separate inquiries into the alleged custodial death of Makhan Din in Kathua. While police claim he died by suicide, a magisterial probe and a fact-finding committee led by DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma will investigate the case.
6. Bhim Sen Tuti Assumes Charge As IGP Jammu Zone: IPS officer Bhim Sen Tuti took charge as IGP Jammu Zone, succeeding ADGP Anand Jain. Tuti has previously served in key police roles across J&K, Jharkhand, and Ladakh.
7. MP Aga Ruhullah Questions Timing Of Security Meeting, Killings In Kashmir: NC leader and MP Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi questioned a high-level security review meeting, alleging that killings in Kashmir followed the meeting. He pointed out that no elected government representative was part of the discussions.
8. Mehbooba, Iltija Mufti Allegedly Placed Under House Arrest: PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Saturday claimed that she and her mother, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, had been placed under house arrest, preventing them from visiting Sopore and Kathua. In a post on X, Iltija wrote, “My mother & I both have been placed under house arrest. Our gates have been locked up because she was meant to visit Sopore where Waseem Mir was shot dead by the army.” She further said “I intended to visit Kathua today to meet Makhan Din’s family & am not being allowed to even move out. Nothing has changed in Kashmir even after elections. Now even comforting the family of victims is being criminalised.” There has been no official statement from the J&K Governmenmt regarding the alleged restrictions.
