Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir, directing security agencies to adopt a “more stringent and ruthless approach” towards infiltration and militant activities.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in an official statement, highlighted Shah’s emphasis on strengthening counter-militancy measures and tightening security mechanisms along the border. The meeting, attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials from the MHA, Jammu and Kashmir administration, and top security personnel, assessed the current security situation in the Union Territory. Shah commended the efforts of security forces in bringing down violence and improving the law-and-order situation, acknowledging the significant strides made in neutralizing threats.
Strengthening Counter-Infiltration Measure: Shah reiterated that “zero infiltration” should be the ultimate goal of security agencies operating in Jammu and Kashmir. “Security forces must take a more stringent and ruthless approach towards infiltration and militant activities. Our objective should be to completely eradicate the existence of militancy in the region,” he asserted. His directive comes amid increased concerns over cross-border infiltration attempts and the use of narcotics as a tool to finance militant networks. Shah highlighted that funding through narcotics trade has become a critical challenge and called for immediate, rigorous action to dismantle these financial networks. “The proceeds from narcotics trade are being used to fund infiltrators and militants. We must take strict action to cut off these financial lifelines,” he emphasized, instructing security agencies to intensify their crackdown on drug cartels operating in the region.
Improvement In Security Landscape: During the meeting, the Home Minister praised the security forces for their role in significantly improving the security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the MHA, coordinated counter-militancy operations and strategic security deployments have led to a substantial reduction in militant incidents. Officials briefed Shah on recent counter-insurgency operations and the effectiveness of intelligence-sharing mechanisms in preventing major attacks.
