Self-Supporting course in Computers for Jawans of Army and their families by JU

Jammu : Under the guidance of visionary Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. Umesh Rai, The Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu in collaboration with the Indian Army, initiates/collaborative Self-Supporting course in Computers for Jawans of Army and their families. The initiation is one of the extension outreach activities of the University of Jammu, Department of Lifelong Learning. The Department is a face of the Jammu University for reaching out to the community and is an interface of University community linkage. Reaching out to the masses and non-University extrants to fulfill their educational needs to the mandate of the Department of Lifelong Learning as opined by the Head of the Department of the Lifelong5 Learning Dr. Priyanka Sharma. The collaborative Basic course in Computers for the Jawans and their family was inaugurated on 7th February 2025 at Army station Ratnuchak, Jammu. The inauguration commenced with the lighting of Lamp Ceremony by the dignitaries. The programme was anchored by Vishal Kumar, who welcomed the dignitaries from University of Jammu, Prof. Suman Jamwal, Dean Social Sciences, University of Jammu and thanked her for her benign presence and support for beginning of the new chapter of University of Jammu and Indian Army. He also welcomed and rendered special thanks to Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu for taking painstaking efforts in creating and offering the need based courses for value addition of Jawans of Army and their families. He also extended heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Brig. Sumeet Sharma and Col. Sandeep Thakar for conceiving such programme for the welfare of Army personals. Vishal kumar also welcomed Mrs. Monika Sharma, Chariperson family Welfare Organization, Sabre Bde and serving soldiers and Family of Sabre Bde. The welcome address was followed by the introductory address by Dr. Priyanka Sharma, who gave detailed over view of nature and range of activities /programs offered under the aegis of Department of Lifelong Learning. In particular she shared the range of possible collaborative programs for the welfare of the Jawans and their families being offered by the Department in near future. In her inaugural address and remarks Prof. Suman Jamwal, Dean Social Science, University of Jammu gave brief of overview of role and importance of such activities and how Universities face is uplifted with such activities she in particular appreciated the vision of Brig. Sumeet Sharma in taking the lead in such activities and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Priyanka and Col. Sandeep Thakkar for their brain child and making their efforts materialize in the form of present activity. The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Brig. Sumeet Sharma, Cdr 3 (1) armed brigade who thanked Prof. Suman Jamwal for taking time out and blessing the joint academic and welfare activity of Jammu university and Indian Army. He unparticular extended thanks as well as appreciated efforts of team leaders Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director, DLL and Col. Sandeep Thakkar for envisaging and offering the basket of such activities for the welfare of Army personnel and their families.
After the formal vote of thanks the token of appreciation was given to the guests Prof. Suman Jamwal, Dean Social Sciences and Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. The programme concluded with the group photograph and interaction with the participants.
