3 drug peddlers arrested in Ang & Shopian, Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Anantnag and Shopian and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarter Srinagar Police said that in Anantnag Police Station Mattan received a specific input through reliable sources about one Farooq Ahmad Kumar S/o Mohd Subhan Kumar R/o Khul Chohar Mattan having indulged in peddling of narcotic substances and hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house following which a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Mattan besides initiating investigation. Stating that on receipt of this input a police party alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned carried out the search of the said house and during search recovered about 10 Kgs of Charas Powder and cash of Rs. 2,16,650/- from the said house, Police in its statement further said that the owner of the said house was also arrested, Stating therein that further investigation in the instant case is underway.
Police in its statement further said that additionally a Police Party from Police Station Pahalgam at a checkpoint established at Langabal Pahalgam, apprehended one Shahrukh Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mohd Ramzan Sheikh R/o Sheikh Mohalla Sallar and recovered 120 grams of Charas from the possession of the said accused, adding therein that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pahalgam besides initiating further investigation.
Police in its statement further said that in Shopian also, a Police Party led by SHO Police Station Heerpora under the supervision of SP Hqrs Shopian Javed Ahmad at a checkpoint established at Borihalan, intercepted a suspect identified as Manzoor Ahmad Wanah S/o Gamah Wanah R/o Devpora and during search recovered 920 grams of Cannabis powder from the possession of the said accused. Stating that a case under FIR No. 02/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Heerpora, Police in its statement said further investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the arrested individual.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
