Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has detained a habitual drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs in Kupwara and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the detainee Sajad Ahmad Lone @Saj Pal S/o Gh Mohd Lone R/o Lastiyal, Kralpora, Kupwara, is involved in multiple narcotics-related cases, including FIR No. 219/2021, FIR No. 158/2022, and FIR No. 274/2023, registered at Police Station Kupwara. Stating that the dossier prepared by Police Post Kalaroose confirmed the involvement of the said accused in illicit drug trafficking necessitating his preventive detention, Police in its statement further said that while acting on the recommendation of District Police Kupwara, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, issued the detention order under the PIT NDPS Act, following which the accused has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal on Thursday, adding therein that the detainee was apprehended from District Ferozepur Punjab by police party from Police Post Kalaroose.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police said that it remains committed to eradicate the drug menace and ensure a safe and drug-free society. Police in its statement also sought cooperation from people in the fight against this menace and urged them to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics to the nearest police station.
