Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and Handwara and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Qaimoh during patrolling at Khudwani, intercepted a suspect identified as Aidil Ahmad Sheikh S/o late Abdul Gani Sheikh R/o Laram Ganjipora while carrying a bag, who on noticing the patrolling party tried to flee from the spot but was chased and tactfully apprehended, adding therein that during search, 2.5 Kgs of Cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Stating that in a similar action in Handwara also a police team from Vilgam Police Station while acting on a specific input set up a checkpoint at Lilam Crossing and during checking, two suspects identified as Ayaz Ahmad Bhat S/o Kamal Din Bhat R/o Harduna and Nisar Ahmad Lone S/o Fayaz Ahmad Lone R/o Hadipra Watergam, attempted to evade the the arrest but were swiftly intercepted , Police in its statement further said that during searching, 140 grams of charas-like substances were recovered from the possession of the said accused who were subsequently arrested. Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant section of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to actively support the fight against drugs by sharing any information or Dialing-112 regarding drug-related activities, appealing people therein to report anonymously, assuring them strict action against those involved in drug peddling to establih a drug free society.
