New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump on Monday in their first conversation since Trump began his second term in office. Both the leaders discussed bilateral relations between India and the US during their telephonic conversation.
“Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump @POTUS. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership,” PM Modi said in a post on X. “We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security,” he added.
The Prime Minister had earlier spoken to Trump after he won the presidential elections on November 7. During the conversation, Trump had praised PM Modi, describing him as a magnificent man, adding that the whole world loved him. Trump said that India is a magnificent country, and he considered PM Modi and India as true friends, sources said, adding that both leaders agreed to work together for world peace. Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, in a ceremony that was moved indoors for the first time in 40 years due to freezing temperatures. Notably, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar represented India at Trump’s swearing-in ceremony at the invitation of the US government and carried a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Trump.
