Srinagar: Below is the timeline of the weeklong public events and engagements of top public functionaries witnessed within and outside Jammu & Kashmir this week:
1. Multi-Tier Security Arrangements In Place For Republic Day In Kashmir: In preparation for the Republic Day celebrations, multi-tier security arrangements have been set up across Kashmir. Drones and spotters have been deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi confirmed that all security measures are in place and that surveillance is being actively maintained to safeguard participants at the main function at Bakshi Stadium. The IGP reassured the public that the authorities are ready to handle any situation and facilitate a safe celebration of India’s 76th Republic Day.
2. Srinagar Lights Up With Republic Day Celebrations: As India gears up to celebrate its 76th Republic Day, Srinagar has been decked out in patriotic fervor. Several government buildings, including the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Civil Secretariat, Ganta Ghar, and LD Hospital, have been illuminated with vibrant lights in the colors of the national flag. The sparkling lights have created a stunning spectacle that reflects the spirit of patriotism, captivating both locals and tourists in the city.
3. J&K Police Awarded 27 Medals for Excellence: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been honored with 27 awards on Republic Day 2025, including 15 Gallantry Medals, the second-highest recognition after Uttar Pradesh. The force also received two President’s Medals for Distinguished Service and ten Medals for Meritorious Service, recognizing their courage and dedication in maintaining peace and security in the region.
4. Two J&K Police ADGPs Receive President’s Medal for Distinguished Service: In a prestigious recognition, Additional Director Generals of Police (ADGPs) Anand Jain and Nitish Kumar of Jammu and Kashmir have been awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service on Republic Day. Their commendable leadership and service to the state have been acknowledged at the national level.
5. Late Dy SP Muzamil, IGP Kumar Among 15 J&K Officers Honored With Gallantry Medals: The late Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Himayun Muzamil, along with IGP Vijay Kumar, SSP Rakesh Balwal, and others, has been posthumously awarded the President’s Medal for Gallantry on Republic Day. A total of 15 police officers from Jammu and Kashmir were honored for their exceptional bravery and contributions to the safety of the region.
6. Full Dress Rehearsal for Republic Day Celebrations Held in Jammu: The full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day celebrations of Jammu and Kashmir was held at M A Stadium on Friday. The parade, which featured contingents from the Army, BSF, CRPF, JKP, JKAP, IRP, NCC cadets, Bharat Scouts, and guides, among others, was inspected by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar. He took the salute at the impressive march past and hoisted the tricolor flag to mark the occasion.
7. BSF ADG Reviews Security Along Jammu-Kathua Border: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Additional Director General of BSF Satish S Khandare reviewed the security situation along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district. The review included discussions on operational strategies with field commanders and interactions with troops stationed at the border, ensuring security and preparedness for the national celebrations.
8. J&K Police Attaches Properties Of Militant Commanders in Kishtwar: In a significant move against militant networks, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has attached properties worth crores belonging to 11 Pakistan-based militant commanders in Kishtwar district. The crackdown targets individuals allegedly involved in reviving insurgency and militancy related activities in the Chenab Valley region, marking a crucial step in countering militancy in the UT.
9. Jammu And Kashmir’s Industrial Ecosystem Sees Unprecedented Growth: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted the remarkable growth of Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial ecosystem during a speech on Friday. He credited the government’s efforts and policy interventions for transforming the region into a vibrant startup hub. Sinha encouraged the youth to contribute to the ongoing development and further boost the Union Territory’s economic growth trajectory.
10. Ekta Kumari to Lead NCC Girls’ Contingent At Republic Day Parade in New Delhi: Ekta Kumari, an NCC cadet from Jammu, has made history as the first from Jammu and Kashmir to lead the National Cadet Corps girls’ contingent at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. A BSc student at Gandhi Nagar College for Women, Ekta’s achievement brings pride to the region. Inspired by her father, a retired soldier, Ekta is an exemplary role model for youth across Jammu & Kashmir.
11. Sat Pal Sharma Re-elected President J&KBJP: Veteran BJP leader Sat Pal Sharma has been elected unopposed as the president of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the second term. Sharma expressed his gratitude to party workers and vowed to strengthen the party in the Union Territory.
