Waqf Amendment Bill: Mirwaiz led MMU delegation meets JPC chairman

New Delhi : A delegation of the Mutahida Majlis Ulema (MMU)— representative body of all major Islamic/Muslim organisations, Ulema and Muslim educational institutions of J&K—led by its chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq met Jagdambika Pal, chairman Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Waqf Amendment Bill in New Delhi on Friday.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the MMU delegation presented a detailed memorandum to the JPC about its stand on the proposed amendments.
After meeting the JPC chairperson, MMU chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while talking to the reporters said, “We met the panel and apprised it about our concerns and what the people of J&K are thinking about these amendments. It will be unfortunate if the panel announces its decision without further consultations with the stakeholders.”
“We briefed the committee about our concerns and the issues that need to be addressed.”
Another Ulema said, “Waqf properties are personal properties dedicated by Muslims in the name of Allah for the benefit of their society and to help the underprivileged. Such religo /social institutions warrant least interference from the state.”
