7 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir, Contraband & psychotropic substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested seven drug peddlers and also recovered contraband /psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Anantnag, a Police team from Police Station Bijbehara, at a checkpoint established at Bonpora Uranhal, intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number JK01K-2485 with three persons identified as Zubair Ahmad Dar S/o Nazir Ahmad Dar R/o Khanabal Batangoo, Muzafar Ahmad Dar S/o Mohammad Yousuf Dar R/o Uranhal and Umar Majeed Ganie S/o Abdul Majeed R/o Chee Anantnag on board, adding therein that during search, 2.8 Kgs of Charas Powder-like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Stating that a Police party from Police Station Srigufwara in a similar action intercepted a suspect carrying a bag while approaching from Chek Poshkreeri towards Poshkreeri followingwhich the individual identified as Mohd Shafi Ganie S/o Late Gh Ahmad Ganie R/o Chek Poshkreeri who attempted to escape upon spotting the naka party but was swiftly apprehended, Police in its statement further said that during search, 1.458 Kgs of Cannabis Powder was recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement further said thar in Sopore also, a police team of Police Station Bomai during patrolling at Tujjer Shareef Sopore, arrested a drug peddler identified as Abdul Hameed Lone S/o Mohammad Ramzan Lone R/o Tujjer Shareef Sopore and during search recovered 20 grams of Heroin-like substance from his possession. Stating that in yet another similar action at a checkpoint established at Behrampora Drusoo Rafiabad a team of Police Post Watergam arrested a drug peddler identified as Shabir Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohammad Yousuf Ganie R/o Behrampora, Police in its statement said during search, 1200 grams of Charas-like substance from the possession of the said accused.
In its above referred statement Police further said that in Kupwara also, a police team of Police Station Trehgam at a checkpoint near Sumo Stand, Trehgam, arrested a drug peddler identified as Ashiq Ahmad Mochi S/o Mohd Sultan Mochi R/o Mochi Mohalla, Trehgam and during search, 55 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reaffirmed its commitment to eradicate the drug menace from society and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens, reiterating therein its commitment to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station, taking a pledge there in that “Together, we can work towards a drug-free society”.
