Chief Secretary Attal Dulloo calling for action plans to improve the standards of waste disposal management is an indication that all is not going well with the waste disposal management in cities and towna across Jammu & Kashmir. The flaws as such need to be identified and resolved immediately by the civic bodies that fall under the administrative control of J&K Housing and Urban Development Department. The directive for pursuing scientific methods for managing solid and liquid waste comes from the highest bureaucratic office ahead of the forthcoming summer tourist season in both Kashmir Valley and Jammu division. It is not only the surge in tourist footfall and swelling nos for the annual Amarnath Yatra but the growing population and increasing migration from rural to urban areas also necessitates extension and expansion of waste disposal management facikites across cities and towns in Jammu & Kashmir.

Improvement in the waste disposal management would improve civic facilities not just at tourist places but also on the travelling routes of Amarnath Yatris in Kashmir Valley. Administrative wisdom demands that waste disposal actions are sought from both the twin municipal corporations of Srinagar and Jammu and as well as heads of civic bodies of other cities and towns through twin Directorates of Local Bodies Department of Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division for immediate implementation from March onwards this year.”
