Kulgam, Jan 21: A mother has succumbed to her injuries 17 days after her son passed away following a suffocation incident in Gudder, are of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

An official said that a woman who was hospitalised due to suffocation on January 2, succumbed to her injuries 17 days after her son passed away following a suffocation incident in Gudder.

The deceased, Fameeda Akhter, and her 25-year-old son, Nisar Ahmad Khan, were found unconscious on January 2 at their home in Gudder due to suffocation caused by charcoal fire fumes, they were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors referred them to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment.

“Unfortunately, Nisar Ahmad lost his life two days after the incident, and despite prolonged treatment, his mother, Fameeda Akhter, passed away today,” the official added.

As reported earlier a total of 19 deaths were reported across Jammu and Kashmir due to asphyxiation, with today’s death the total death toll due to suffocation reaches 20.
