Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested seven drug peddlers in Srinagar, Budgam & Shopian and also recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Srinagar, a police team of Police Station Khanyar during routine patrolling in Bishambarnagar area, intercepted two suspects identified as Imran Ahmad Ganie S/o Gh. Mohammed Ganie R/o Naibasti Anantnag and Abid Hamid Nanda S/o Ab. Hamid Nanda R/o Dagpora Khanbal, Anantnag as they were roaming in the area, adding therein that during search, substantial quantity of contraband substance was recovered from their possession.
Stating that in a similar action a police team of Police Station Nishat during naka checking at Sheikh Mohalla Brein arrested one drug peddler namely Umar Farooq Shiekh S/o Farooq Ahmad Shiekh R/o Sheikh Mohalla Brein Nishat and during search recovered 50 grams of contraband charas like substance from his possession
Police in its statement further said that in Budgam also, a police team of Police Station Beerwah at a checkpoint established at village Lolipora near Indian Gas Agency, intercepted three suspects identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Rouf Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohammad Sultan Bhat both R/o Utligam Beerwah & Mukhtar Ahmad Najar S/o Abdul Rashid Najar R/o Chewdara and during their personal search, recovered five sticks of charas like substance wrapped in corn husk weighing 49 grams, 368 grams of charas like substances in powder form & 14 strips of banned drug (112 tablets), ₹2520 cash and two mobile phones .
Stating in Shopian also, Police along with CRPF (14Bn) during a search operation at village Daramdoora Keegam recovered two Nylon bags containing contraband substance weighing 16.700 Kgs charas from residential house of one Imtiyaz Ahmad Hurra S/o Bashir Ahmad Hurra R/o Daramdoora Keegam Police its statement said that further investigation is underway, adding therein that all the drug peddlers have been arrested & cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations besides initiating investigations.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
