Dear Readers: –
Today is the 12th death anniversary of my father, Syed Bashir Ahmed Bukhari. It was his kind guidance and outlook that made me launch Kashmir Horizon. Conscious of what journalism really meant, my father always wanted me to evolve as a professional in such a way that the social service becomes a concomitant part of the profession. His advice used to be replete with the idea that self-contentment and peace of mind pivots upon social service. His belief was that social service is integral part of humanity and refracting from it amounts to betraying this great motive. His firm belief was that social service reverberates as a clarion call to justice, uplifting marginalized voices and championing the sanctity of human dignity. He wanted everyone to stand firm on this. It was the night intervening 16th and 17th January in the year 2012 he bade adieu to this transient world, leaving behind a huge responsibility for me. Though I was in the profession for decades, running a newspaper of my own was a new challenge. As editor, I came to realize about the plethora of problems and huge challenges a news papers offers each day. At times the situations give me a feeling that everything has come a cropper and it is the time to give in. But the very inspiring words of my late father that the art of learning to counter challenges with courage is something one must have, gave me a new strength. With this strength, I stand up with the determination that nothing is invincible. With the passage of time everything pales.
“What matters the most is what one leaves behind and fact of the matter is that the “Kashmir Horizon” family particularly me in person is proud of the legacy of my father late Syed Bashir Ahmad Bukhari he left behind. He did not leave behind the material assets. He left a source of strength for all of us. We pray this source never depletes and persists for us for all the times to come. He was so much courageous and committed in his initiatives that he always conquered what he believed was invincible whether family affairs or other ones, he always emerged as a victor. “Kashmir Horizon” family particularly I myself owe to him what cannot be described in words.”
A decade is enough to efface memories. But, the indelible imprints left by my father on the “Kashmir Horizon” family particularly myself as his eldest son cannot be effaced ever .Time cannot wane these memories as these are draped in unending love, knowledge and experience he always shared with one and all in the “Kashmir Horizon” family. What matters the most is what one leaves behind and fact of the matter is that the “Kashmir Horizon” family particularly me in person is proud of the legacy of my father late Syed Bashir Ahmad Bukhari he left behind . May Almighty Allah the most beneficent and the most merciful bless his soul with peace and may he have the best place in Jannah, Aameen Ya Rab Ul Aalameen!
