Srinagar : Police in Sopore on Wednesday successfully recovered a consignment of illicit timber and also seized a vehicle (tractor) within the jurisdiction of Police Station Sopore.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs about the illegal extraction of willow timber logs from Forest Compartment No. 14, Janwara Nambal during the night of 13/14 January 2025, a police team of Warpora along with the Forest Department, established a checkpoint at Janwara and intercepted a vehicle (tractor) bearing registration No. JK05D-3984 and during search, recovered illicit willow timber cut from Forest Compartment No. 13, Janwara Nambal from the said vehicle (tractor).
Stating further a case under FIR No. 05/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sopore besides initiating further investigation which is underway, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime. Police in its statement also said that any information related to unlawful activities or social evils can be shared with Police through the nearest police station or by calling 112.
