Jammu: Police in Jammu on Tuesday said that Janipur police, led by SHO Insp. Vikram Sharma, continuing with its zero tolerance to drug abuse campaign, arrested habitual drug peddler Mahaveer Singh S/O Jodh Singh R/O Ranjitpura Camp, Talab Tillo Jammu, along with Nitan Goria S/O Jagdish Raj R/O Kanachack Jammu, Amitpal Singh S/O Chanderpal Singh R/O H.No.62 Model Town Gangyal Jammu, and Shallu Sharma S/O Narinder Sharma. The suspects were found consuming Chitta in bushes near Roop Nagar. Upon spotting the police, they attempted to flee, but alert police officers apprehended them. During a search, approximately 5 grams of heroin were recovered from Mahaveer, while aluminum foil and other items were found on the other three.
In a statement issued from the District Police Office, Jammu Police said that further investigation revealed that Mahaveer has been involved in selling narcotics for several years, generating undue profits in the local area. A case, under FIR No. 05/2025 was registered at Police Station Janipur, and the investigation is in full swing. Police in its statement further said that the accused, Mahaveer @ Abbu, and the others are part of a drug syndicate which operates actively in Jammu, selling drugs to innocent youth in the area for profit, contributinhg to overdose deaths. “These peddlers have become a nightmare for parents of vulnerable children, especially those attending tuition classes or staying in hostels. The fifth FIR against Mahaveer @ Abbu under the NDPS Act”, the Police Statement reads, adding therein that the accused is a hardcore drug peddler with no regard for the law, Stating therein further that this marks the 11th FIR in the past 21 days since the launch of the Zero Tolerance policy against drug peddlers by SDPO City West Jammu.
SDPO City West and SP City North Vivek Shekhar JKPS, under the overall supervision of Joginder Singh SSP Jammu, are personally overseeing the investigation to uncover the backward and forward linkages of these drug peddlers and dismantle the whole ecosystem of drug activities in the area. The financial investigation is also underway to identify and seize the illicit property acquired by these black sheep.
The arrests of Mahaveer @ Abbu, Nitin Goria, Amitpal Singh, Shallu Sharma, and others show the police’s commitment to saving innocent youth from the menace of drug abuse. Police in its above referred statement reiterated its commitment to show zero tolerance toward peddlers involved in this immoral trade, which has led to several youth fatalities due to overdose, resulting in the genetic death of families.
