Jammu : Police in Jammu on Friday said that the Police Post Pounichak, headed by ICPP Pounichak PSI Vijay Kumar, has seized/Challaned four Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles equipped with modified silencers and pressure horns that were causing noise pollution and public nuisance in the area. Additionally, seven two-wheelers were seized for plying on roads without documents and number plates. This action follows numerous complaints from residents disturbed by the loud noises produced by these modifications. Authorities have announced plans to extend enforcement efforts to other areas of the Rural Zone of Jammu and to target individuals and businesses involved in selling and installing these unauthorized silencers and those who are using unregistered vehicles, in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
In a statement issued from the District Police Office, Jammu Police said asked the people to note that unauthorized modifications to vehicle silencers and plying vehicles without number plates and documents are illegal under the Motor Vehicles Act. Police in its statement said that such alterations not only contribute to noise pollution but can also reduce the efficiency of the bike and pose safety risks, adding therein that these unregistered vehicles are widely being used for numerous criminal activities, including snatching and drug peddling. Police also urged vehicle owners to refrain from making such modifications and are warning of strict penalties for those who continue to violate these regulations.
