Srinagar: Below is the weeklong timelines of the key public events and the engagements of top public functionaries witnessed last week within and outside Jammu & Kashmir:
1. LG Sinha Greets People On New Year: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended his warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of the New Year. In his message, he emphasized the need for a renewed commitment to building a peaceful and compassionate society while highlighting the vision of Viksit Bharat and the pursuit of development and prosperity for the region.
2. Srinagar SMC Reviews Urban Development Projects:
In a high-level meeting chaired by Dr. Owais Ahmed, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials reviewed the progress of key urban development projects under the Srinagar Smart City initiative. The discussion focused on road improvements, waste management, water management, and other smart city projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and quality of life.
3. CM Omar Assures Preparedness for Upcoming Snowfall: In light of a major snowfall forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the public that the government is well-prepared to tackle the challenges. Abdullah also stated that the electricity situation is better than previous years, though power cuts are still a concern.
4. Aga Ruhullah Reaffirms Stance on Article 370 Restoration:
Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah reaffirmed his commitment to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370. He expressed readiness to participate in a protest for statehood and urged others to join the movement in January, marking the anniversary of India’s Constitution adoption.
5. LG Chairs University Council Meeting At Raj Bhavan: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired the 88th meeting of the University Council of Jammu University. Discussions focused on academic and administrative improvements, with in-principle approval granted for several proposals. The LG emphasized regular curriculum updates, the promotion of local languages, and faculty strengthening initiatives.
6. Normalcy Not Fully Achieved In J&K Due To Continuing Militant Attacks, Says CM Omar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that while efforts are ongoing to restore peace, normalcy has not been fully achieved due to continuing militant attacks. He also assured the public that the administration is well-prepared to manage the challenges posed by snowfall, with experience from previous winter weather event
7. CS Dulloo Reviews Progress Of Solar Rooftop Installations: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a meeting to assess the progress of solar rooftop installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Emphasizing the importance of raising awareness through campaigns, Dulloo set a target for the installation of 30,000 solar rooftops across Jammu and Kashmir.
8. Minister Sakeena Itoo Inspects JLNM Hospital Facilities: Health Minister Sakeena Itoo conducted a detailed inspection of Jawaharlal Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital in Rainawari. During her visit, she reviewed the functioning of medical facilities and emphasized cleanliness, hygiene, and round-the-clock heating arrangements in view of the cold weather.
9. Baramulla Police Seize Illicit Timber in Smuggling Operation: In a major operation to combat timber smuggling, police in Baramulla arrested three individuals and seized illicit timber. The suspects were caught transporting timber without proper permits, and the police successfully intercepted the vehicle during a routine checkpoint.
10. Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains Achieve 180 Km/h in Successful Trials: The Vande Bharat sleeper trains have successfully achieved a peak speed of 180 km/h during recent trials, with a video showcasing the comfort and stability of the train. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav confirmed that the trials would continue through January, with the trains set to offer long-distance, world-class travel to commuters.
