DC Kupwara emphasizes on upscaling therapeutic management, proper counseling of drug addicts

Kupwara : To review the progress made to curb drug abuse in Kupwara district, a meeting of District Level Committee of Narco Coordination (NCORD) was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan at meeting hall of DC Office Complex, here.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed appraisal from concerned members of NCORD Committee regarding the present scenario of drug related occurrences, various issues related to menace of drug addiction, its control and rehabilitation and areas of concern.
The DC meticulously reviewed the implementation of the measures taken and progress achieved to eliminate drug abuse and its peddling in Kupwara District. She took feedback from the members of the Committee who presented the latest report related to action taken against drug-addiction and drug trafficking in the District.
On the occasion, the DC stressed upon the Officers of all the line Departments to further intensify IEC activities, connecting communities including religious influencers and civil society members.
The DC also emphasized the Officers including Enforcement agencies for identification and close vigil of entry points, hot spots of drugs, public places and abandoned buildings.
Similarly, the DC also laid thrust on further intensifying IEC campaigns (seminars, rallies and other programmes on the harmful effects of drug menace) at Schools and Colleges levels to sensitize students and common masses about ill-effects of drugs and close coordination between Health , Education and other line departments. She also reviewed the functioning of Drug De-addiction Centre Kupwara and Addiction Treatment Facility Centre (ATFC) Handwara and stressed for upscale the therapeutic management and proper counseling of the drug addicts which can help the addicts to come out of the menace.
The DC said in order to combat this rising societal problem, multi-pronged Rehabilitation, Counseling and Guidance policy is indispensable to be implemented on ground to monitor drug abuse and take remedial measures to curb the menace so that sufferings of the drug- affected persons is mitigated.
The Police department was directed to share details of attached properties of drug peddlers with concerned Tehsildars who will mark red entries of these properties which cannot be sold.
The Medical Superintendent District Hospital Handwara was directed to conduct counselling sessions for families of drug abusers so that they may live a respectful life. Patrolling of police parties around the abandoned buildings shall also be intensified, besides, SHOs and Tehsildars shall conduct joint visits to these places to put strict vigil on drug abusers.
On the occasion CMO Kupwara Dr. Ramzan appraised the chair that 1221 cases of drug and substance abuse have been identified in the district, 703 are undergoing treatment, 388 cases fully recovered till date.
It was given out that cent percent CCTV cameras have been installed in the medical stores of the district.
Chair was apprised that as many as 69 FIRs were registered in police district Kupwara 105 drug peddlers were arrested. In Police District Handwara 30 FIRs were registered and 62 drug peddlers were arrested and lodged in different jails.
The meeting among others was attended by ADC Kupwara, Mohammed Rouf Rehman, ACP Kupwara, ASP Kupwara, CMO, CEO, Medical Superintendent DH Handwara, Assistant Drug controller , Tehsildars, besides other concerned Officers.
