6 drug peddlers arrested, Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers across Kashmir valley and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Srinagar, a police team headed by SHO Police Station Shalteng, at a surprise naka established at Lawaypora/ Mujgund Axis intercepted a suspect identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat @Shaka S/o Ghulam Ahmed Bhat R/o Astan Mohalla Gundhasibhat Srinagar and during checking recovered approximately 22 grams of heroin like contraband substance from his possession.
Stating that a police team of Police Station Zadibal at a checkpoint established at Sazgari Pora, apprehended a suspect namely Waseem Ahmad Bafanda S/o Ghulam Ahmad R/o Dangerpora Malbagh Hazratbal and during his personal search recovered 4 grams of heroin and cash ₹ 3020 from his possession, Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Sopore, a police team led by SHO Police Station Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore, Sarfaraz Bashir at a checkpoint established at Adipora crossing intercepted a suspected identified as Owais Bashir Shakari R/o Sher-Colony, Sopore while carrying a polythene bag and during search recovered 5.10 grams of a brown sugar like contraband substance. Police in its statement further said said that similarly in Awantipora, a police team during naka checking in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tral apprehended a drug peddler identified as Aqib Qadir Sofi S/o Ghulam Qadir Sofi R/o Gang Tral and during search recovered 1 kg of powdered charas like contraband substance from his possession.
Stating that in Baramulla also, a police team headed by SHO Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Bela Crossing Boniyar, intercepted a suspect identified as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, S/o Tariq Ahmad, R/o Hundi Nowshera , Police in its statement further said that during search, 50 grams of a charas like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who disclosed that he had procured the contraband from a woman identified as Shameema Begum, W/o Mohd Maqbool Sheikh R/o Lari Kasi Boniyar. Police in its statement furthermore said that while acting on this lead, a police team accompanied by the concerned magistrate, searched the residential house of the said woman and the operation resulted in the recovery of 62 grams of charas-like contraband substance and 1 kg of charas powder, adding therein that further investigation is underway to uncover the broader nexus of this illegal activity. Stating that all the accused persons were arrested and cases under relevant sections of law wereregistered at respective police stations, Police in its statement said that further investigations have been initiated.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
