Farooq Trali Urges Govt to Establish NIT Campus, Agricultural Research Center in Tral

Tral: Farooq Trali, Chairman of the Citizens Council Tral, has called on the government to reconsider the location of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus and the establishment of a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Tral, amid concerns from local residents regarding the land identified in Newa Karewa.
Trali highlighted that the land in Newa Karewa, identified for the NIT project, is a vital source of livelihood for local farmers, particularly for almond cultivation. He expressed concerns over the impact on these farmers, whose livelihood depends on the almond trees planted on this land. “We appeal to the government to consider alternative land options for the NIT campus. We have ample state-owned land available just 1 to 1.5 kilometers away from Tral, at the foot of a mountain. This location, near the Nahir village, offers a beautiful and suitable setting for the campus,” Trali stated. He urged the administration to prioritize the needs of the local residents, while also pushing for the establishment of the NIT campus on this available land. Trali also took the opportunity to advocate for the creation of a KVK in Tral, an agricultural research center that would benefit the area’s agricultural and horticultural sector. With around 80% of the population in the Tral sub-district engaged in agriculture, Trali emphasized the importance of introducing modern scientific farming methods to boost productivity and improve economic conditions. The proposal for a KVK in Tral, he said, would provide local farmers with the necessary training and resources to adopt advanced techniques, thereby improving agricultural practices and increasing production. “We urge the government to sanction the construction of the NIT complex on the available land in Tral and approve the establishment of an agricultural science center to benefit our farmers,” Trali concluded.
