Bandipora: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora on Wednesday inaugurated a four days Orientation Training Programme for the implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024.
The event was held under the Chairmanship of Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman DLSA Bandipora/Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Bandipora and under the supervision of Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon, Chief Judicial Magistrate/Secretary, DLSA Bandipora.
The four days Orientation Training Programme is being organized for the members of the Legal Service Unit for Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM) and Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC), aimed to enhance the understanding and implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024.
The programme was inaugurated at the Conference Hall of ADR Centre, DLSA Bandipora by Khalil Ahmad Choudhary Chairman DLSA Bandipora / Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Bandipora, in presence of Sushil Singh (Additional District & Sessions Judge) Bandipora, Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon (CJM/Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Amandeep Singh (Munsiff Bandipora) and LSUM members. The inaugural session highlighted the importance of the scheme in ensuring access to justice for individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities.
Mehraj-ud-din Sofi, a retired judicial officer advisor/mentor of the committee, addressed the participants virtually. He emphasized the need for effective implementation of the scheme and provided valuable insights on the role of LSUM and LSUC in bridging the gap between the legal system and vulnerable individuals.
The Secretary, DLSA Bandipora, further elaborated on the objectives of the orientation programme, underscoring its importance in equipping the participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to implement the scheme effectively.
Asif Iqbal, a member of Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM) and Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) for implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024, shared his practical experiences in the field, providing the participants with a firsthand perspective on handling cases related to mental and intellectual disabilities.
The programme facilitated interactive discussions, enabling participants to exchange ideas and explore effective ways to achieve the goals of the NALSA Scheme 2024. The training session concluded on a productive note, with participants expressing confidence in their ability to implement the scheme in their respective jurisdictions.
