Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Sopore and Handwara besides recovering contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Sopore, a police party of Police Station Tarzoo headed by SHO Police Station Tarzoo under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir, at a checkpoint established at Sofi Hamam intercepted a vehicle (Auto) bearing registration number JK15-4531 with two persons identified as Zahoor Ahmad Malla S/o Mohammad Maqbool Malla R/o Shercolony B and Mohammad Shafi Gojri S/o Late Ghulam ud Din Gojri R/o Ningli Hatishah on board, adding therein that during search 2 kgs and 12 grams of contraband poppy straw like substance from the possession of the said accused. Stating that both the said accused were arrested beside seizing the vehicle used in the commission of crime , Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR No. 123/2024 under relevant sections of Law wa registered at Police Station Tarzoo besides initiating further investigations.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Handwara, a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Chogul at a checkpoint established at Unisoo near Bed College intercepted a suspect identified as Ab Rehman Ganie S/o Gh Rasool Ganie R/o Zaloora and during search, recovered 260 grams of contraband Charas-like substances from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station for further investigation.
Stating that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police station Handwara beside initiating further investigation, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in the fight against the drug menace by sharing any information regarding drug peddling or trafficking in their areas.
