Srinagar: Below is the timeline of the weeklong public events and engagements of top public dignitaries witnessed within and outside J&K This week:-
1. Season’s First Snowfall Brings Joy To Kashmir: Srinagar and other plains of Kashmir experienced the season’s first snowfall on Friday, delighting locals and tourists. Accumulations of up to 2 feet in parts of south Kashmir disrupted daily life, while visitors enjoyed the scenic views along Dal Lake.
2. LG Sinha Pays Tributes To Sikh Martyrs: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tributes to Sikh martyrs at the ‘Vishesh Shaheedi Samagam’ in Jammu, praising the unparalleled sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus. He highlighted the government’s efforts in developing the Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor and other infrastructure for pilgrims.
3. More Than 90% Feeders Expected To Be Up, Functional By Evening; Says CM Omar: Heavy snowfall in Kashmir Valley since Friday has led to extensive power outages. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that over 700 feeders at lower levels were down but assured restoration work was underway, expecting 90% of feeders to be functional by evening.
4. J&K Talents Honored With Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar: Ayaan Sajad, a 12-year-old Sufi singer from Anantnag, received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar from President Droupadi Murmu. Ayaan was recognized for his contributions to art and culture, particularly his unique blend of Sufi music with pop-rap.
5. LG Attends Christmas Celebrations In Jammu: LG Sinha attended the Christmas Celebrations organised by ‘All J&K Christian Sabha’. Interacted with Bishop, Priests and members of CNI Church, Jammu-Srinagar Diocese and AJKCS. They are at the forefront of building a peaceful, selfless, compassionate and caring society.
6. J&K Develops 23.72% Of Hydropower Potential:
Jammu and Kashmir has harnessed 23.72% of its estimated 18,000 MW hydroelectric potential, with plans to double capacity by 2026 through major projects like Pakal Dul, Rattle, and Kiru. Currently, the state has 29 hydro power projects in operation, contributing over 3,500 MW.
7. LG Pays Tribute To Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya: On their birth anniversaries, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, praising their pivotal roles in India’s socio-economic transformation and emphasizing their contributions to nation-building.
8. CM Omar Inspects Healthcare Facilities In Kashmir:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted surprise visits to Bone and Joint Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Barzulla and Bemina, inspecting treatment facilities and winter arrangements. He was accompanied by Health Minister Sakeena Itoo during the visits.
9. Indian Army Mourns Loss Of Five Soldiers in Poonch Accident: Five soldiers were killed in a tragic accident in the Mendhar area of Poonch district while on operational duty. The Indian Army expressed deep condolences, and the injured soldiers are receiving medical treatment.
10. J&K MLAs Await CDF Allocation: Jammu and Kashmir’s newly elected MLAs have yet to receive their Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations, despite over two months passing since the formation of the new government. The decision on the CDF allocation will be made in the upcoming budget session.
