3 drug peddlers arrested in Srinagar, Kulgam: Police

Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Srinagar & Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that during patrolling by team of Police Station Bemina on link road between Bemina and Ibrahim Colony, a vehicle bearing registration no MH02ER/9763 (Etios) parked under suspicious circumstances by the road side driven by two suspects identified as Syed Athar Rafi S/o Syed Rafi Ahmed R/o Dehraman Soibugh Badgam A/P Usmania Colony Bemina and Waseem Ahmed Rather S/o Mohd Ashraf Rather R/o Hamdaniya colony Bemina attempted to flee but were apprehended tactfully by the police team and during search, 7.10gms of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession.
Stating that a case under FIR No 81/24 under relevant sections of NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Bemina besides initiating an investigation , Police in its statement further said that both the accused were arrested and vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Kulgam a police party of Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Byepass-NHW intercepted a suspect identified as Raj Kumar S/o Meer Chand R/o Batote Ramban carrying a bag and during search, 4 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in the said bag was recovered, adding therein that the accused was subsequently arrested on the spot and a case vide FIR no 109/2024 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qaimoh and besides initiating an investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police urged people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. Police also reassured people that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
