Srinagar : In order to equip researchers with essential digital tools and techniques to streamline their academic pursuits and enhance the research work a two-day program titled ‘Digital tools for Quality Research: hands-on workshop for Research scholars’ started at University of Kashmir (KU) here on Thursday.
The two-day workshop organized by Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) KU in collaboration with the office of Dean Research KU is aimed to provide an opportunity to the participants to learn about thesis writing, reference management, academic metrics, AI tools in academia, presentation design, and data visualization. In his presidential address Dean Academic Affairs KU Prof Sharief-ud-din Pirzada who was chief guest on the occasion while suggesting the participants to make rational use of digital tools like AI said in his address “The research of contemporary times has undergone a paradigm shift and there is no denying the fact that artificial intelligence has thrown up new opportunities and challenges before us. But it is still in our hands to what extent as researchers we may use the digital tools like AI for redesigning of our data and its analysis in order to make our research more meaningful.”
Speaking on the occasion Dean Research KU Prof Mohd Sultan Bhat while referring to the research profile of the University and the advancement the institute has made in terms of citations, H-index, publications and research grants said in his address “Our University has made a satisfactory progress in these areas over the last five years and our researchers and scholars have generated a huge data but what is of immense significance now is how to restructure and redesign that data and in this direction intelligent use and application of latest digital tools can play a key role.”
In his address Registrar KU Prof Naseer Iqbal while maintaining that scholars and researchers should take benefit of such workshops and programs which are aimed at making them ready to face the contemporary challenges of the modern world said “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) has now become a bedrock for interdisciplinary research and in order to stay relevant in the changing times we as scholars and researchers need to adapt the emerging technology.”
Dr Gopa Kumar V who is resource person for the two-day workshop while addressing the participants of the workshop said that for meaningful and effective research data management is very crucial and the use of modern-day digital tools gives shape and filters the data as per the requirement of the market and industry.
Earlier in his remarks Director DIQA Prof Manzoor A. Shah highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop and underscored that the workshop was chosen keeping into consideration the fact that Qualitative Research has gained greater scientific recognition in recent years, given the improvement of denser methodologies, more backed by knowledge from different areas of expertise. Deputy Director DIQA Prof Ajaz Akbar Mir presented formal vote of thanks on the occasion while as Dr Javaid A Sheikh coordinator of the workshop conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session.
