DLSA G’bal organises Legal awareness program on POSH Act, 2013

Shopian : A legal awareness program on the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Workplace (POSH) Act, 2013 aimed to educate participants especially the women employees about its provisions and procedures was on Thursday held at Conference Hall, BDO Office, Kangan.
The event, held under the supervision of Abdul Nasir, Chairman, DLSA Ganderbal, and under the guidance Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary, DLSA Ganderbal, was organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal.
During the event, Tehsildar Kangan highlighted the importance of the POSH Act, in order to ensure the safety of women folk at their workplaces. He emphasized the need for participants to spread awareness about the POSH Act among their colleagues, promoting a culture of respect and safety in the workplace.
Deputy Legal Defense Counsel Ganderbal, cited relevant judgments of the Supreme Court of India, emphasizing the importance of protection of women from sexual harassment at the workplace.
He explained the procedure for filing complaints under the POSH Act in detail, empowering participants to take action against sexual harassment. He said the Act aims to prevent and address sexual harassment, providing a safe and conducive work environment for the women.
Whileas, Panel Lawyer, TLSC Kangan, elaborated the objective of POSH Act, 2013. He highlighted key concepts, including, Unwelcome acts, physical contact, sexual advances, and making sexually colored remarks.
He said the Act applies to all workplaces, including public and private sector organizations, NGOs, and corporations. He added, employers must set up an internal complaint committee to address complaints of sexual harassment.
The Panel Lawyer educated participants about the rights and protections available under the POSH Act and empowered women to report incidents of sexual harassment and seek justice.
The event was also attended by the Officials of BDO Office Kangan, Child Development Project Officer, Kangan, Block Medical Office Kangan, Tehsil Social Welfare Office Kangan, Zonal Education Office Kangan, PLVs of DLSA/TLSC Ganderbal/Kangan, etc.
