Scuffles Defeat Debates In Parliament

“Unfortunately MPs tending to scuffles in the parliament are not setting any good precedence for the conduct of parliamentary proceedings in the two houses of the parliament and legislative assemblies of States and Union Territories (UTs) in future.”

The recent fight between the ruling BJP led National Democratic Alliancce (NDA) and the Opposition Alliance Congress led INDIA over the legacy of B R Ambedkar the founder of the constitution of India finally resulted in yet another unproductive session and in the process two bills that deserved consensus were finally referred to Joint Parliamentary Committees (JPCs) . Had both the Government and Opposition MP’s been concerned more about law making than the politics which fetches them votes in the elections the bills that deserved consensus would have been passed with unanimity over certain amendments in the draft bills. Nothing is parliamentary when MPs come to blows and scuffle in the highest law making body called “parliament” and unfortunately MPs tending to scuffles in the parliament are not setting any good precedence for the conduct of parliamentary proceedings in the two houses of the parliament and legislative assemblies of States and Union Territories (UTs) in future. Blowing the statement of Home Minister Amit Shah or for that matter even of some opposition leaders out of proportions just to create pandemoniums in the parliament brings down the reputation of the country as the biggest democracy of the world. The people of a country where the parliamentary democracy has thrived for seven long decades don’t like to see their MPs joining scuffles over the legacy of the founder of the constitution B R Ambedkar sometime on the constitution day and after constitution day celebrations across the country. With Lok Sabha loosing 52% of the winter session and Rajaya Sabha loosing about 39% of  it in pendemoniums and adjournments   the MPs of both the houses of parliament of  both the ruling and the opposition alliances  cease the moral right to preach morality, responsive Governance and public welfare inside and outside the parliament.

“The collective failures of the ruling and opposition alliances in the smooth conduct of the parliament proceedings in the just concluded winter session of parliament demands and deserve a collective response which requires national consensus on the conduct of house proceedings both in the parliament and as well as the assemblies of the States and Union Territories (UTs) across the country. After all national interest is not only about growth, livelihoods and economic strength of a country but it is also about the conduct and behaviour of the parliamentarians inside the parliament and those of legislators inside the assemblies in States and Union Territories (UTs).”

The conduct and behaviour of parliamentarians seen in conflict with the vision and mission of  B R Ambedkar the founder of the Indian and his associates on the floor of Lok Sahba and Rajaya in the just concluded winter session  is by no standards of understandabilities a tribute to the founders of the constitution particularly  B R Ambedkar. The collective failures of the ruling and opposition alliances in the smooth conduct of the parliament proceedings in the just concluded winter session of parliament demands and deserve a collective response which requires national consensus on the conduct of house proceedings both in the parliament and as well as the assemblies of the States and Union Territories (UTs) across the country. After all national interest is not only about growth, livelihoods and economic strength of a country but it is also about the conduct and behaviour of the parliamentarians inside the parliament and those of legislators inside the assemblies in States and Union Territories (UTs).
