Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that district police Kupwara in a joint search operation with the Army at Chinotra in Village Amrohi Kupwara recovered 4 packets of heroin-like substance weighing approximately 3 Kg and 798 grams (with packing), adding therein that the arms and ammunition, including 4 pistols and 6 magazines concealed by unknown militants with criminal intent were also recovered from the spot. Stating that a case under FIR No. 64/2024 U/S 113 BNS, 7/25 IA Act, 8/21 NDPS Act, and UAPA was n registered, Police in its statement further said that investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and establish the backward and forward linkages.
Astatement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar reads “Kupwara Police made remarkable progress in its fight against the drug menace and narco-terror activities in the district throughout 2024”, adding “Today, 7 individuals were detained under the PIT NDPS Act, taking the total number of detentions under this Act to 14 for the year”. Stating that three residential properties were also attached under the UAPA in connection with militancy -related activities, reflecting the firm resolve of Kupwara Police to target those supporting and facilitating militancy, Police in its statement further said that in the last three months, 20 cases under the NDPS Act were registered in the district, raising the total number of cases registered so far in 2024 to 67, adding there therein that in these cases, 103 drug peddlers were arrested, showing the relentless crackdown on narcotics in the region.
Police in its statement further said that the sustained efforts of Kupwara Police have lead to significant seizures of contraband and proceeds of the crime. Stating that this year, the seizures including 21.82 kilograms of heroin, 2.37 kilograms of charas, 30 kilograms of poppy husk, 202 bottles of illicit liquor and ₹93,705 in cash, Police in its statement further said that additionally, 5 residential properties belonging to drug peddlers were attached as part of proactive measures to dismantle drug networks operating in the district.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station and sought cooperation in maintaining law and order and achieving the shared goal of a drug-free and militancy-free society.
