Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has seized a Hyundai Venue (registration number JK01AT-4651) worth Rs 10.5 lacs, allegedly bought using proceeds from illicit drug trafficking activities in Handwara district Kupwara, stating therein further that the vehicle, belonging to a drug peddler identified as Javeed Ahmad Sofi S/o Ab Razzak Sofi R/o Khunbal Handwara, district Kupwara, was attached as part of ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the action was taken under Section 68(f) (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985 and is linked to several drug-related cases, including FIR No. 193/2024, FIR No. 266/2022, and FIR No. 101/2018, under various sections of the NDPS Act. Stating that during the investigation, the vehicle was identified as an illegally acquired property, purchased from the proceeds of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement reiterated its commitment to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking in the region and sought help from local communities in its efforts to curb drug trafficking.
