MVD seizes 5 vehicles with tempered/masked HSRPs amid massive drive against safety violations in Jammu

Jammu : Motor vehicles Department Jammu on Tuesday launched a special drive in the district to book violators found plying their vehicles with tempered /masked High Security registration plates (HSRP).
As many as 5 vehicles, found plying with tempered HSRPs, were seized. The enforcement drive was conducted under the guidance of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra as per the instructions received from Transport Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan.
The enforcement drives are being conducted following complaints that some vehicle owners were deliberately tampering with or masking their registration numbers to avoid detection by enforcement agencies and to evade capture through e-challan devices.
As per official statement, it was informed that during the recent drives which were conducted at different locations viz-viz, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway- Purmandal Morh, Sidhra.
The teams checked 578 vehicles out of which 05 vehicles were seized and 127 vehicles were e challaned for different violations. The total expected revenue from the e-challans issued during the drives is Rs. 2.72 Lakh.
During the drive, the Transport Department reiterated its commitment to reinforce compliance to traffic regulations and take serious note of any attempts to bypass enforcement mechanis The Vehicle owners were urged to adhere to the prescribed rules to avoid penalties and seizure of their vehicles.
Earlier in the day, a road safety awareness program was also organised by the MVD team in Birla Open Mind International School in collaboration with Radio Mirchi 98.3. The School Children were imparted Road Safety tips to avoid mishap due to road accidents which is the main cause of fatalities in present times.
Enforcement team consisted of ARTO HQr. Rehana Tabassam; ARTO Flying Squad Bipen Singh Charak; MVls Vikas Srivats and Jagandeep Singh, SMVI Amanish Sharma and MVTA Tarunjot Singh.
