Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has seized 33 vehicles used in illegal transport of minerals which includes (14 Tractors, 18 Tippers and 1 LNT) and arrested 9 accused for being involved in the illegal extraction/ transportation of minerals in the month of November and December this year, adding therein 6 FIRs were also registered at police stations of Magam, Beerwah and Khansahib in the district.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that this proactive approach to curb illegal mining was actively taken up by all the Police stations of District Budgam along with the Mineral Department, Budgam, adding therein that fines to the tune of lakhs of rupees were also realised against illegal extraction/ transportation of minerals during this period.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police resolved to act tough against the said violators and appealed people to come forward with any information regarding illegal mining activities in their neighbourhood.
