Baramulla: In a significant effort aimed to ensure timely snow clearance and improve winter connectivity, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, on Monday inaugurated the Snow Clearance Unit at Watergam, Rafiabad under the Mechanical and Hospital Division Baramulla.
This newly established unit will cater specifically to the entire Rafiabad area, ensuring swift snow clearance operations during the winter months.
During the inaugural ceremony, the Executive Engineer, Mechanical Division Baramulla, briefed the DC about the availability of machinery and the operational readiness of the unit. He highlighted the deployment of essential equipment to effectively address snow accumulation across the region and maintain road connectivity.
Speaking on the occasion, DC emphasized the importance of proactive measures for snow clearance to minimize disruptions during the winter season. He stressed the need for efficient coordination among departments to ensure uninterrupted mobility for residents and emergency services.
The establishment of this unit at Watergam has been widely appreciated by the local residents, who see it as a crucial step towards addressing long-standing issues of snow clearance and winter accessibility.
Meanwhile, local residents brought up the pressing demand for the desilting of Nalah Hamal, which passes through Watergam. The residents emphasized that desilting is essential to prevent waterlogging, flooding and improve the overall drainage system in the area.
