Ganderbal: The people of Ganderbal, including commuters and traders, are celebrating the announcement of the Pandach to Wayil 4-lane road project. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, made the announcement via a tweet on X earlier today, revealing that the central government has sanctioned ₹827.98 crore for this vital infrastructure initiative.

The project involves the construction and upgrading of a 12.11-km stretch between Pandach and Manigam near Wayil Bridge. This includes one major bridge, three minor bridges, three realignments, 51 box culverts, and a 2.55 km elevated structure passing through Ganderbal town. The development is part of the Srinagar Ring Road (Phase-IIA), designed to enhance regional connectivity and ease traffic flow.

The announcement has generated widespread enthusiasm among the local population, commuters, and traders, all of whom believe the project will bring significant economic and social benefits to the region.

Ghulam Nabi, a local resident, expressed his delight, stating, “This project will change the face of our town. For years, we have been struggling with poor infrastructure, which has affected our daily lives. The 4-lane road will not only make transportation easier but will also improve accessibility to key services, reduce travel time, and ensure smoother commuting for everyone. We are truly grateful for this initiative.”

Another resident, Zahida Begum, emphasized the positive impact on her community, saying, “This road will bring prosperity to our area. For years, we have struggled with poor connectivity, but now our children will have better access to schools, hospitals, and other essential services. It is a blessing for everyone here. I hope the government completes it on time without any delays.”

Traders in the area also see the project as a game-changer for local commerce. Omar Ahmad, a shopkeeper in Ganderbal, shared his perspective: “This new road will make a huge difference for local businesses. With better connectivity, our goods will reach customers faster, and we’ll be able to attract more people to the area. It’s a big step forward for the economic development of Ganderbal.”

Union Minister Gadkari stressed that the project is not just a local development but also a strategic initiative. The road will serve as a crucial link for tourists visiting Leh and Kargil, while also facilitating defense movement in the region. This will boost tourism and ensure smooth transit for both local and national interests.

The announcement has been met with widespread appreciation across the region, with residents, commuters, and traders all eagerly awaiting the completion of the project. Locals are hopeful that it will significantly improve transportation efficiency, enhance quality of life, and stimulate economic activity.

The Pandach to Wayil 4-lane road project is part of the government’s larger vision to modernize Jammu and Kashmir’s road infrastructure. With enhanced connectivity and improved highways, the initiative aims to foster regional development, support tourism, and ensure better access to essential services for residents and businesses.
