Srinagar: Below is the timeline of weeklong key public events and engagements of top public functionaries held within and outside Jammu & Kashmir this week:-
1. Centre Approves ₹827.98 Crore For Pandach-Manigam 4-Lane Highway: The Union Minister for Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari, sanctioned ₹827.98 crore for a 4-lane highway project between Pandach and Manigam in Jammu & Kashmir. The 12.11 km stretch will include major and minor bridges, realignments, and a 2.55 km elevated structure. This project, part of Phase-IIA of the Srinagar Ring Road, aims to enhance connectivity for both tourists and defense vehicles.
2. Omar Abdullah On ‘One Nation, One Election’ Debate: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the need for an open debate on ‘One Nation, One Election.’ He cautioned against the procedure resembling the 2019 handling of Article 370. Meanwhile, Jharkhand MP Mahua Maji criticized BJP’s focus on caste and religion in elections, calling the move a strategy to weaken regional parties.
3. Omar Abdullah Reviews Floriculture Sector: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a meeting to discuss the development of the floriculture sector, focusing on leveraging upcoming rail connectivity to promote Kashmir’s flowers. He urged the department to beautify the region, including planting tulips along Airport Road to enhance Srinagar’s appeal.
4. LG Pays Tribute to General Zorawar Singh on Martyrdom Day: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to General Zorawar Singh on his Martyrdom Day. Sinha highlighted Singh’s contributions to expanding the Dogra Empire and his leadership, which continues to inspire equitable growth and social justice in Jammu and Kashmir.
5. LG Highlights Transformative Changes In J&K:
LG Manoj Sinha celebrated the ongoing development in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing it to inclusive policies under Prime Minister Modi. He emphasized reducing gaps between amenities and citizens’ aspirations, promoting equitable progress across the region.
6. Omar Abdullah’s Meeting With Jammu Civil Society:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Jammu’s civil society for the first time since assuming office. He stressed his government’s commitment to representing all citizens and addressing concerns of regional bias.
7. Amit Shah to Chair Security Meeting On Dec 19: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a high-level security meeting on December 19 to review strategies for maintaining peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. LG Manoj Sinha and senior officials will attend the meeting, focusing on security issues in the region.
8. Historic Milestone For Udhampur-Srinagar Rail Link:
The final track work for the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project was completed, marking a significant achievement. The ballast-less track for Tunnel T-33, connecting Katra to Reasi, was finished early Friday morning.
9. Kupwara Police Investigates Job Fraud: Kupwara Police have initiated an investigation into a job fraud case involving Zahoor Ahmad Ganaie, who allegedly defrauded people by promising government jobs in exchange for money and original certificates.
10. Kulgam Police Attach Property Linked to Militancy: Kulgam Police attached a residential property under the UAPA Act, linked to sheltering four militants who were neutralized earlier this year. The attachment was executed with full legal compliance.
