Beerwa(B’gam) : BHSS Beerwah observed World Soil Health Day on 5th December, 2024 under the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.” The event drew a diverse crowd, including the Zonal Education Officer Beerwah, agricultural officials from District Budgam, civil society members, senior citizens, local farmers, teachers, and students. Speaking on the occasion, Principal BHSS Beerwah Javid Ahmad Banday emphasized the significance of maintaining soil health and fertility. He warned that soil degradation poses severe threats due to global warming, climate change, deforestation, urbanization, erosion, improper agricultural practices, nutrient depletion, and chemical pollution. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Teacher and Nodal Officer for Soil Health Cards in District Budgam, stressed the importance of raising awareness about soil health among farmers and students. He encouraged farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices, reducing their reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Principal Javid Ahmad Banday distributed soil health cards to local farmers, promoting informed decision-making for sustainable agricultural practices. Teacher Mushtaq Ahmad wani (SNO Soil Health Card Scheme) was also felicitated by the appreciation certificate for his great role in soil health card awareness and conducting soil tests in district Budgam.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mohammad Ibrahim Wani, Lecturer Persian at BHSS Beerwah.
