7 drug peddlers booked under PIT NDPS Act across valley: Police

Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has booked seven drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam and Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that drug peddlers namely Nisar Ahmad Mir S/o Abdul Salam Mir R/o MohdporaKulgam, Manzoor Ahmad Mir S/o Abdul Samad Mir R/o TengbalKulgam and Hilal Ahmad Mir S/o Abdul Rashid Mir R/o BungamOkey, were detained under the prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropoc Substances Act ,1988 through orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, adding therein that the said accused were late lodged in Central Jail KotBhalwal Jammu.
Police in its stamen further said that in Awantipora, four drug peddlers namely Aadil Ahmad Bhat @Taigoo S/o Abdul Majeed BhatR/o Tulbagh Pampore, Gulzar Ahmad Dar S/o Ghulam Hassan Dar R/o Panzgam Awantipora, YawarYousuf SofiS/o Mohd Yousuf Sofi R/o Kadlabal Pampore and Feroze Ahmad Chopan S/o Mushtaq Ahmad R/o Larow Jagir Tral were booked under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority . Stating that the said accused were later lodged in District Jail Jammu and Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu, Police in its statement further said that many cases were registered against the said drug peddlers for being involved in promoting drug trade by supplying drugs to youth of Police District Awantipora.
Police in its statement furthermore said that under the provisions of Sec 3 of PIT NDPS Act 1988, a suspect engaged in Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, which poses a serious threat to the health of a person and society can be detained up to maximum period of one year and can be extended.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reaffirmed its commitment to continue its war against the drug peddlers and sought co-operation of people in curbing social evils especially drug abuse .
