Kashmir shivers under intense cold wave

Sonamarg records minus 12.5 degree Celsius, Zojilla freezes at minus 23.0 degree Celsius
Srinagar: Amid the forecast of cold and dry weather conditions for the next four days, the night chill has intensified across the Valley with Sonamarg recording the season’s lowest temperature of minus 12.5 degree Celsius.
The cold wave has intensified across Kashmir and some parts of Jammu. As per the details, Sonamarg has recorded a low of minus 12.5 degree Celsius while Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort has recorded a minimum temperature of minus 9.6 degree Celsius.
In Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the mercury plummeted and settled at minus 2.0 degree Celsius. Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, has recorded a low of minus 9.4 degree Celsius.
Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir has recorded a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius while in Kupwara, the mercury settled at 2.5 degree Celsius.
Zojilla has however, witnessed the coldest night of the season at minus 23.0 degree Celsius.
The night temperature has plummeted at maximum places following the fresh snowfall in higher reaches as well as in some of the plains of the Valley during the last two days.
Meanwhile, the weatherman here has predicted no wet spell till December 21.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that the weather would remain dry for the next 24 hours while on December 15, there is a forecast of cloudy weather conditions.
On December 16 & 17, the weather would remain generally while from December 18-20th, the cloudy weather is expected in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the MeT’s advisory, there is a forecast of a cold wave over many stations during the next four days. “In view of fresh snowfall, sub-freezing temperature & icy conditions over roads of important passes and higher reaches, the tourists, travelers and transporters are advised to follow administration and traffic advisory,” it reads
