Srinagar: In a significant move aimed at bridging the gap between nature and knowledge, the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Kashmir, Irfan Rasool Wani inaugurated the pioneering Forest Library at the Forest Headquarters in Srinagar.
This innovative initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of our natural world among the community, particularly the youth.
The Forest Library, nestled within the serene premises of the Forest Complex, Sheikhbagh, Srinagar, is a treasure trove of resources on forestry, wildlife, environmental conservation, and much more. It stands as a testament to the region’s commitment to promoting environmental education and sustainable living practices.
Speaking at the inauguration, the CCF Kashmir remarked that Thursday marks a monumental day not just for us in the Forest Department but for every nature lover and learner out there. “The Forest Library is more than just a repository of books; it is a sanctuary where knowledge meets nature. Our aim is to inspire and educate our community about the importance of conserving our precious environment,” he added.
The library boasts an extensive collection of books, journals, and digital resources covering a wide array of subjects related to the natural world. It also features interactive learning spaces designed to engage visitors of all ages in environmental education activities.
In addition to serving as an educational hub, the Forest Library is envisioned to be a space for dialogue and collaboration among environmentalists, researchers, students, and the general public. It aims to host regular workshops, seminars, and exhibitions on various environmental themes to raise awareness and foster community engagement in conservation efforts.
“Through the Forest Library, we hope to ignite a passion for nature in the hearts of our visitors. We invite everyone to explore, learn, and join us in our mission to protect and preserve our environment for future generations,” said the CCF Kashmir.
Among others the function was attended by Tawheed Ahmad Deva, CF Srinagar; Arashdeep Singh, CF South; DFO Urban Forestry, IPO, and HQ Range Officers.
