Jammu : The University of Jammu welcomed the seven-member NAAC Peer Team on Wednesday for a three-day visit as part of its 4th Accreditation Cycle. The team was ceremonially received with a guard of honour by the NCC Girls Unit.
The visit began with an opening meeting at The Business School, where Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the University’s vision and achievements. Prof. Rai highlighted the transformative initiatives taken by the University over these years. Dr. Ginny Dogra, Director DIQA, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, presented the formal vote of thanks and the proceedings were conducted by Prof. Garima Gupta.
Dr. Dogra also gave a comprehensive presentation covering vital aspects of the University’s working, such as students feedback, research ecosystem, curriculum development and outcomes, research infrastructure, highlighting the institution’s holistic approach to education.
The University is being evaluated on seven NAAC parameters: Curricular Aspects, emphasising innovative academic design and flexibility; Teaching-Learning & Evaluation, focusing on learner-centric methods and transparent assessment; Research, Innovations & Extension, promoting groundbreaking research and community engagement; Infrastructure & Learning Resources, showcasing state-of-the-art facilities and optimal resource utilization; Student Support & Progression, fostering holistic student development and career advancement; Governance, Leadership & Management, demonstrating strategic leadership and institutional accountability; and Institutional Values & Best Practices, prioritizing inclusivity, sustainability, and ethical practices.
During the visit, the Peer Team was also apprised about the University’s Green Campus Initiatives, particularly the restriction on the entry of four-wheelers inside the campus, which underscores the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The Peer Team visited various teaching departments to evaluate key departmental criteria, including curriculum relevance, faculty research contributions, student achievements, infrastructural facilities, and the quality of academic programs. The team interacted with the faculty to assess teaching practices, research innovations, and student support mechanisms.
The day concluded with a vibrant cultural program that celebrated the traditions and diversity of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. The event featured a patriotic and folk group song by University students, followed by the traditional ‘Thali Dance’. An engaging performance by the wards of University employees added a personal touch to the evening. Renowned singer and University alumna Sonali Dogra captivated the audience with her musical performance. On the side line of today’s visit, the University’s Utsaah-‘The Clubs Consortium’ presented a theatrical rendition of Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein, performed by students of the Design Your Degree program, leaving an indelible mark of cultural and creative resonance.
