8 drug peddlers arrested across valley, Contraband substance also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested eight drug peddlers in several districts of Kashmir valley and also recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party from Police Station Pattan, led by SHO Police Station Pattan at a checkpoint established near Railway Crossing Pattan intercepted a vehicle (Ertiga) bearing registration number JK05M-8404 with three suspects on board. Stating that the said suspects were identified as Jhon Mohd Mir S/o Gh Mohd Mir and Mohd Yaqoob Mir S/o Late Ab Aziz, both residents of Nillah Palpora, Faisal Ahmad Hajam S/o Gh Qadir R/o Pushwari Anantnag , Police in its statement further said that during search, 78 grams of contraband charas in powder form was recovered from their possession following which the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Baramulla also, a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by DySP Hqrs Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Cement Bridge Baramulla, intercepted a suspect identified as Ikhlas Noor S/o Noor Din Khan R/o Baghi Rehmat Sopore and during search recovered 40 strips of banned tablets was recovered from his possession. Stating that in a similar action a police party of Police Post Kalaroos during routine naka checking near Higher Secondary School Kalaroos apprehended a suspect identified as Javid Ahmed Lone S/o Abdul Khaliq Lone R/o Lashtiyal Kalaroos and during search recovered 4 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession, Police in its statement further said that in another action, Police Station Awantipora received reliable inputs about presence of contraband substance in a residential house at Larkipora following which a police party of Police Station Awantipora led by SHO Police Station Awantipora along with Tehsildar Awantipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora raided the said house and during the search recovered 20.500 Kgs of charas like substance from the said residential house belonging to a lady namely Fareeda Akhter R/o Larkipora.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in Pulwama also, a police party of Police Station Litter at a checkpoint established near Arihal crossing intercepted two suspects identified as Nisar Ahmad Rather S/o Gulzar Ahmad Rather R/o Kanjipora Lajoora and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Qadir Bhat R/o Malangpora Pulwama, adding therein that during search, around 82 grams of brown-sugar like substance was recovered from their possession and subsequently all the accused were identified.
Stating that all the accused were arrested and cases under relevant sections of law were subsequently registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
