Srinagar: Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani on Thursday said that the council of ministers has sent a proposal with regard to the holiday on December 5, marking the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
He said that hopefully, the holiday will be observed on this day again next year.
“The holiday on this day (December 5) was cancelled, but a proposal has been sent to LG again by the council of ministers and hopefully from the next year, the holiday will be observed on this day,” Wani told reporters after paying tributes to Sheikh Abdullah on his 119th birth anniversary at his grave.
The statement comes just two days after the National Conference (NC) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Khanyar, Ali Muhammad Sagar urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to reinstate the public holiday on Sheikh Abdullah’s birth anniversary.
He added that “it is an obligation to remember the ancestors, who have shown us the right path and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah is right at the top, who has secured rights like freedom of speech and other things for us and given us a freedom from the clutches of autocratic rule,” he said.
“We are here to pay tributes to the leader and pray to Almighty to give him highest place in Jannat,” he added.
