Srinagar : The University of Kashmir (KU), Tuesday inaugurated a week-long ‘Faculty Development Programme (FDP) in Arts, Languages and Literature’ here.
The programme is being organised by the University Grants Commission (UGC)-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), KU for the faculty members of higher educational institutions across the country and will run through December 9, exclusively online.
On the occasion, noted academic, writer, poet and critic, Prof Mohammad Zamman Azurdah, underlined the significance of organising workshops of significance in arts, languages and literature.
He said, “Faculty development is crucial in shaping the academic environment and initiatives like this ensure that educators stay updated with evolving pedagogical practices.”
Special guest on the occasion, Prof Khwaja Mohammad Ikramuddin from the Centre for Indian Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), highlighted the critical role of arts and languages in today’s machine-based society.
“While technology is advancing rapidly, the value of arts and languages in preserving our cultural heritage cannot be overstated,” he said.
Acknowledging the role of FDPs in the growth and development of educators, Librarian, Allama Iqbal Library KU, Dr Fayaz Ahmad Loan, underlined the importance of libraries and their role in research, particularly in the fields of arts, languages and literature.
“The more one keeps updated with new approaches and knowledge, the more relevant they become in the system,” he said.
Outlining the objectives of the current and other ongoing FDPs, Director MMTTC KU, Prof Fayaz Ahmad, highlighted the need for such programmes in shaping an empowered human resource for the ever-changing, ever-evolving higher education landscape.
“Our programmes are designed to develop advanced learning, engage interdisciplinary dialogue and encouraging critical inquiry in the domain of humanities, social sciences and sciences,” he reiterated.
Head, Department of Linguistics, KU and Course Coordinator of the programme, Prof Aejaz Mohammad Sheikh, provided an overview of the programme.
