Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam, contraband substance also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Nipora Crossing intercepted a suspect Akshay Kumar S/o Kartar Chand R/o Markoli Samba while carrying a bag coming from Nipora Link Road towards Nipora Crossing, who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot, Police in its statement further said that the said accused was chased and apprehended tactfully following which 9.6 Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance filled in the said bag was recovered from his possession, adding therein that the said accused was arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case under FIR No. 261/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at police station Qazigund besides initiating further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per the law.
